My work begins with remembered places. A landscape that actually exists and the trace it leaves in my memory are never the same thing; that gap between the two is my primary material. I use painting, sculpture, and three-dimensional modeling in digital environments together. The reason I present them side by side is not to tell a single story — quite the opposite. I want to open a non-linear narrative space where the viewer can establish their own sequence. A painting shows a place, the sculpture beside it carries the weight of that place, and the virtual environment holds the version of both that can no longer be fully remembered. The spaces I construct in the digital medium are not representations; they are the very moment of superimposition where memory overlays space. The digital here is not a tool, but the material closest to the way memory operates: layered, editable, never complete. After a teaching career of more than thirty years, I retired in 2018, and since that day I have made the relationship between production and remembering my sole concern. The works that emerge as a result are not a document of a place; they are a record of the distance formed with that place.
