My name is Gökhan Alpgiray
I am a Turkish painter born in Istanbul and living in Aydın. While continuing my Civil Engineering education, I left there and studied Archaeology and Art History. Art caught my interest at a very young age, I loved it, fell in love with it, and I continue it uninterruptedly both as a follower and practitioner. I work with painting techniques such as oil paint, gouache, oil pastel and acrylic. Although I am technically self-taught, I acquired my art culture and knowledge largely thanks to my Archaeology and Art History education.
In my paintings, I usually use my albums consisting of photos from my surroundings, old family photographs, photos I took, and photos I cut and collected from various publications over the years. What happens in the country and the world, what I feel can be effective in the works I do.
My paintings are documents of my existence, my view of the world and the experiences I have lived until today.
If any thought or image evokes a truly sharp and strong emotion in me, that painting or emotion is a candidate to be reflected on canvas.
What the viewer can feel is a unique emotion blended with their own memories and experiences. There will inevitably be places where our worlds will somehow intersect with them.
