Ascension and Surrender: The figure's focus upward by throwing the head back symbolizes a desire for liberation or acceptance of the inevitable. The tension in the neck and jawline conveys the soul's effort to free itself from the body, beyond a physical struggle.
Dramaturgy of Light: The light filtering from the dark and ambiguous background and striking the figure's face and shoulders adds a cinematic depth to the work. This light stands like both a beacon of hope and the stage light of a tragic end within the dark waters surrounding the figure.
