I was inspired by the story of Karayılan, who defended Antep, featured in Nazım Hikmet's epic of the War of Independence (Kuva-i Milliye).
The red and white color of the snake's eyes is a deliberate choice. The warrior's pupil is also red. This is prominent in the original work.
The piece was created with charcoal on passepartout cardboard.
