This work carries a powerful sense of atmosphere; what draws the viewer in at first glance is nature's feeling that is both tranquil and somewhat melancholic. When I look at the composition, I see a settlement area concentrated from the center towards the right. The small houses and especially the striking structure (probably a mosque) place human presence in a fragile but meaningful way within the expanse of nature. The deep valleys surrounding this settlement and the hills rising in layers have given the space both depth and a dramatic perspective. The use of color is quite impressive. Different tones of green cover almost the entire surface; however, this green is not monotonous—it darkens in places to convey shadow, and lightens in places to convey light. Especially the dark areas in the middle section emphasize the depth of the valley and perhaps the harshness of nature. This contrast makes the settlement on the right even more visible and "sheltered". The brush strokes are quite free and textured. This has added an emotion-based approach to the work rather than a realistic depiction. In other words, the landscape has been "felt" rather than directly transferred. This technique creates especially a misty/rainy weather effect—a humid, slightly hazy atmosphere reminiscent of the Black Sea geography. Road traces and sloping lines are also important: The eye wanders within the painting through these winding roads. This also takes the viewer from being a passive observer and includes them within the painting. Overall, the work reflects very well: Human's small but settled presence against the magnitude of nature, A feeling between peace and solitude, And the challenging but enchanting character of the geography.
