I painted this work from the feeling that joy doesn’t always announce itself. Sometimes it simply appears — suddenly, unexpectedly — and for a moment, everything feels more alive.
The turquoise holds the painting in the here and now, while flashes of yellow, coral and pink break through like spontaneous bursts of energy. I allowed the colors and gestures to arrive intuitively, without trying to control where they would lead me.
When you look at it, I hope your eye wanders through the layers and finds its own feelings and sensations ,a flicker of excitement, a sense of lightness, or simply the pleasure of being fully present.
Perhaps joy is like that too.
You don’t always have to look for it. Sometimes, it just finds you.
