Breakfast

The work is a contemporary still life created using oil paint, acrylic, and newspaper collage techniques on canvas, exploring the simplicity of everyday life against the existential backdrop created by obituaries and job advertisements. Newspaper fragments integrated into the surface form the conceptual backbone of the work as tangible documents of society, the struggle for livelihood, and the passage of time. The most basic foods such as fried eggs, a loaf of bread, olives, and cheese, placed upon this realistic and melancholic ground, symbolize the continuity, warmth, and daily rituals of life while also drawing attention to the contradictions of existence. The work establishes a powerful irony by placing "life itself" — that is, the instinct to sustain living — directly upon the harsh realities of death and life. While the coldness of newspaper advertisements collides on the surface with the human warmth of a morning breakfast, soft color transitions, distinct contours, and dynamic brushstrokes lend an expressionist depth to the composition.
