The Frozen Time : Roskovics and the Journey to the Roots
TR
My latest piece transforms the iconic bronze silhouette of Hungarian painter and illustrator Ignác Roskovics, which stands frozen along the banks of the Danube, into a highly realistic ink illustration. This artwork officially marks a core piece of my "From the Archive and Origins" series.
Using black watercolor as if it were traditional calligraphy ink, I wanted to capture the timeless moment of creation flowing from Roskovics’ brush. By dissolving the cold, static nature of bronze into the fluid and transparent washes of watercolor, my goal was to reawaken the real man and artist beneath the statue. It is a monochrome tribute where the rigid bleeds into the fluid, and the past whispers into the present.

This artwork officially marks a core piece of my "From the Archive and Origins" series. The collection explores the intersection of personal ancestry, historical memory, and the unseen threads that connect us to the past.
Behind this piece lies an extraordinary story of absolute synchronicity. I recently discovered my genetic roots and their deep connection to this very culture. Almost immediately, a seamless flow of life events granted me an unexpected journey to Budapest. Standing on the banks of the Danube, locking eyes with this statue, and physically connecting with my ancestry is the exact moment this painting was born. This artwork is not just a reproduction of frozen bronze; it is a living artifact of my soul’s journey back to its origins.
With deep appreciation for the original monument, this piece is also a tribute to sculptor Mihály Kolodko. Kolodko's brilliant craftsmanship captured Roskovics in such a human, intimate moment of creation. In this painting, I wanted to honor that sculptural mastery while translating it into my own medium.
