The photograph was taken on January 28, 2026 in Ankara in the underpass opening from under Cinnah street to Farabi street. It wasn't a planned photograph, but I instinctively felt I would capture a beautiful moment when I went down into that underpass.
This photograph questions the theme of 'crowded loneliness' of urban life through a dramatic play of light and shadow. The cold and anonymous atmosphere of a dark underpass contrasts with the figure moving towards the brightness at the top of the stairs. While the graffiti-covered walls symbolize the chaos and experiences of the city, the orange umbrella represents a resistance within this gray monotony, an individual's effort to preserve their own colors.
