"The Third Man" 60x43 cm.11/2025 TU. Pencil, acrylic paint. The Third Man (1949) is a British film noir. The film's original title is The Third Man and its director is Carol Reed. The film was made by those who knew Europe's destruction firsthand. Carol Reed worked in the British Army's wartime documentary unit and the screenplay belonged to Graham Greene, who not only wrote about spies but sometimes acted like one. The music was played on a zither by Anton Karas, whom Reed heard playing in a Vienna beer hall one night. The sound is cheerful but joyless, like whistling in the dark.
