Between Art and Communication: A Perspective
The artist and academician born in Samsun in 1961 has developed a distinctive practice that simultaneously maintains advertising industry, academic teaching and independent art production in the field of visual communication. The artist, who graduated from Marmara University Fine Arts Faculty Graphics Department in 1992, began his professional career in the advertising sector; during this process, he adopted a production approach that constantly questioned the commercial and aesthetic boundaries of visual language.
Since 2016, in his academic teaching at Fatih Sultan Mehmet, Beykent, Gedik, Okan and Aydın universities, he has prioritized developing an experiential pedagogy beyond theoretical knowledge transfer.
His artistic production has been shaped by distinguished and meaningful interventions. The "ONE-ON-ONE" mixed installation exhibition (Beyoğlu, Istanbul) realized with the participation of ten artists within the scope of Habitat activities in 1996 marks an important period when site-specific practices and collective production were questioned. The "9 Fictional Notes" exhibition opened at ITU Taşkışla in 1999 is a turning point that translates his accumulation in the field of visual communication into a conceptual language. With the "Language of Contemporary Art" exhibition held at Maltepe University Fine Arts Faculty in 2024, this production practice has gained visibility in the public sphere once again.
This multi-layered experience that carries advertising sector, academy and art production simultaneously; has provided the opportunity to closely observe how the image enters circulation, how aesthetic form shapes daily life, and how art's claim to autonomy continues to be tested under today's conditions.
