The Horizon of the White Horse

TR
This work addresses the historical breaking point that began for indigenous peoples with the discovery of the American continent, using symbolic and poetic language. The rearing white horse at the center of the composition and the Native American figure upon it represent the final moments of a free way of life integrated with nature. The horse's leap into the air is an instinctive reaction against the approaching unknown; it is also freedom's last expression of itself.

The figure's gaze is directed toward the ship that appears on the horizon and seems like an innocent symbol of discovery at first glance. However, this ship symbolizes not only the beginning of a new world, but also the end of freedom, land, and the ancient way of life for indigenous peoples. The encounter is silent; there is neither war nor words. The real conflict is hidden in the weight of what has not yet been experienced. The vast geography stretching in the background; along with rivers, sea and green valleys, emphasizes the richness and integrity of these lands. The clear and calm tone of the sky creates a contrast with the approaching storm, strengthening the dramatic effect. The tranquility of nature faces the ruthless transformation of history. In the use of color, the white horse is highlighted as a symbol of innocence and pure freedom, while the figure's traditional clothing underlines cultural identity and belonging. The detailed expression in the brush strokes transforms the scene from merely being a historical moment into a universal memory space. This work questions the two faces of the concept of "discovery": What is a beginning for one side can be an irreversible end for the other side. It offers a powerful narrative that invites the viewer to think about when and how freedom is lost.
