Somnus feeds not on the direct form of the poppy plant, but on the state it creates. In this series, poppy is treated not as a symbol of sleep, stillness or forgetting, but as a silent effect that accumulates on the body and surface.
Repeating bubble-like textures abstract the multiplication potential and introverted structure of the poppy capsule. The surface, with its layers that appear to have formed over time, evokes slowing down, heaviness and moments when perception becomes blurred. In Somnus, meaning is hidden not in a clear image, but in the rhythm of texture, repetition and traces left on the surface.
These works try to hold on the surface not sleep itself, but the ambiguous threshold between wakefulness and sleep. They offer a structure that calms as you look at it but never completely dissolves.
