A Midsummer Nights Dream

A Midsummer Night's Dream, produced in 2022, is a multi-layered composition that presents an original synthesis of mixed technique and acrylic use. The title, even when read independently of Shakespeare's play of the same name, points to a universal experience: the unique logic of dreams, the magical uncertainty of summer nights, and the strange beauty experienced at the threshold where these two intersect. The work does not depict this experience directly; it translates its inner texture, that is, how the dream feels, into a visual language. The composition appears chaotic at first glance, but this chaos is meticulously constructed. The tension between the upper area dominated by red and the lower area deepened by navy blue and black harbors both faces of the dream — the fiery and the dark. Between these two poles, white, yellow, orange, pink, green and purple fragments are connected with dream logic: boundaries are permeable, forms remain incomplete, one shape flows into another. One of the work's most original formal decisions is the use of dotted halftone areas reminiscent of print texture together with painted surfaces. This element brings the consciousness clarity and media layers of pop art to the composition; it symbolizes that permeable threshold between dream and wakefulness, the interweaving of reality and fiction. It is the same in dreams: real images take on unrecognizable forms, familiar things become strange. The free extension of thin lines — orange, white, red — throughout the composition creates a separate layer of meaning. These lines neither draw boundaries nor complete a form; they only pass, cut and connect. Just like the successive images in a dream: each momentary, each traced, none completed. A Midsummer Night's Dream is a visual map of the unconscious. The work does not tell the dream; it makes the dream lived. When the viewer looks at this canvas and surrenders to that familiar but somehow ungraspable dream state, the work has reached exactly where it intended.
