I Am Happy in My Cocoon is an intense composition in mixed media and acrylic, measuring 21.5×14.5 cm, which opens a vast inner world within a small format. The title is both a confession and a manifesto. The word "cocoon" speaks of withdrawal into oneself, of creating a space that belongs to you alone, and of consciously stepping away from the noise of the outside world. Yet this withdrawal is not passive; the phrase "I am happy" transforms it into a resolute and joyful choice. The work makes visible not solitude, but the freedom and inner richness of chosen solitude. The background, dominated by deep navy and black, forms the outer walls of this cocoon — like the night, deep and protective. This dark ground is not threatening; on the contrary, it represents an embrace that envelops, defines boundaries, and creates a safe space. The rough surface of the texture, this dark ground animated by scratches and marks, carries all the hardness and complexity of the cocoon's outer surface. Within this deep darkness, color erupts. Purple, yellow, turquoise, pink-red, and green gather at the center of the composition in forms that are interlocked and complementary. This richness of color symbolizes the life within the cocoon — the idea that the inner world can be far more vivid and layered than the outer one. The pink-red form that shoots upward on the left reads like a longing or a cry of joy directed outward from this interiority; a momentary outburst of the energy growing inside the cocoon. Halftone dot textures take on a meaningful function in this work as well. Placed upon the forms in dark bands, these textures visually correspond to the weave of the cocoon — the porous structure of its protective shell. The cocoon is not entirely closed; it filters the outside world but does not exclude it altogether. The network of lines at the center — the intersection of fine white and colored strokes — represents the inner skeleton of the cocoon: the order and connections that a person constructs within themselves. Though this network may appear chaotic, each line is in relationship with another; order is hidden within the complexity. I Am Happy in My Cocoon, despite its small size, carries great courage. For in an age when the modern world insists on constant outward opening, on being visible and remaining connected, declaring a retreat inward — and finding happiness in it — is no ordinary stance. The work reminds the viewer of their own cocoon, and perhaps grants them permission to return to it.
