Küskünler depicts the silence of two figures turned back to back. They are close enough to touch, yet too hurt to turn their faces toward each other. The red that dominates the inner surface of the work represents the feelings of love, affection, and compassion we keep hidden inside. The reds that spill outward are like traces of emotions that cannot be suppressed, feelings that cannot be put into words. Even though the figures are estranged, this redness shows that the emotions have not entirely disappeared — they have merely been drawn inward. The black spots over the red, on the other hand, are the marks left behind by estrangement. Vulnerability, anger, and a sense of being wounded take shape in these black stains. These marks are the remnants of lived experience and emotions buried within.
Küskünler tells of a situation frequently encountered in human relationships: the silent distance that emerges when love has not ended, but hurt has taken over.
