Decision

Decision is an intense composition measuring 30.5×40.5 cm, produced using mixed media and acrylic techniques, carrying within its vertical format the full weight and tension of a single moment. The title is a single word, and this singularity carries both power and burden. Decision contains everything that must accumulate before it — the doubt, the weighing, the waiting, the fear — and that irreversible moment that follows. This work does not visualize the decision itself, but rather that critical second in which the decision is made. What came before is ending, what comes after has not yet begun; the composition stands precisely at this threshold. Red and orange are unquestionably dominant in this work. This fiery color family, flowing from the upper left toward the right and downward, is the color of resolve, of the act of will, and of the point at which return is no longer possible. Red here does not signify danger, but courage and commitment — that burning clarity at the moment when one door closes and another opens. The blue and turquoise areas standing before or behind this red flow represent the cool element within the decision, the color of logic and calculation. This tension between red and blue constitutes the two great components of any decision: emotion and reason. The green and yellow areas along the left edge symbolize the plurality that exists before the decision — the possibilities that are still open. These colors have been pushed to the margins of the composition — the moment a decision is made, the options recede from the field of vision, and only the chosen path remains at the center. The large orange mass on the right is that chosen path itself: bold, insistent, and unequivocal. The white lines in this work carry a particularly defining significance. These thin, sharp lines running throughout the composition represent the mental clarity of the moment of decision, that invisible boundary drawn within the chaos. When a decision is made, the mind does the same: amid all the noise, it draws a thin line and separates the sides. The halftone texture areas, meanwhile, place this personal moment within a social and cultural context — decisions never arise from the individual alone; environment, pressure, and collective memory are also present in that moment. The white and soft pink area at the bottom functions as a ground, a foundation amid all this intensity. This quiet area symbolizes the ground upon which the decision is made — the self — that core which remains standing despite all its turmoil and fear. Decision freezes a universal and inevitable human experience on canvas. The work does not tell us which decision was made; but it conveys, fully and honestly, how that moment feels — burning, colorful, polyphonic, and irreversible. As the viewer gazes at this canvas, they recall one of their own great decisions, and realize that they are still living inside that moment.
